Offering discounts is a great way to increase sales. People like to get a deal.
Length of Contract
- 5% off for 3 months, 10% off for 6 months, and 15% off for a year. Those numbers won't break your bank, but they will entice people to take longer contracts.
Ad Size
- Instead of charging $40/$80/$120 respectively, try offering a discount for the larger ads. Maybe $10.00/week off for Ad Size "B", $20.00/week off for Ad Size "C". $40/$70/$100 sure makes the larger ads much more attractive.
# of Zones
- If you publish your newsletter in more than one area, you can offer incentives for people to advertise in multiple zones.
- "25% off in the 2nd zone", or "Pay full price in 2 zones and get the 3rd free."
But, why offer discounts? Why not just sell single ads at full price? I would make more money...
-
Sure you are losing a little money by selling larger ads, or selling ads for longer periods. But, you have to look at the BIG picture.
-
If you sell out the newsletter for one year with large ads, what does that mean? Well, you don't need to go back and RESELL those ads every month. Beside a few redesigns, and your weekly delivery, you are free for the next year.
-
That frees up your time to go out and start a new area. Now sell out that area, and start a new one. Pretty soon, you will have multiple areas, all full, and generating MUCH MORE than one area at full price. Make sense?
