How do I get placement locations?

Finding locations to distribute should be an easy task.  The great thing about The Laughable News is that businesses love having it.  Here's why:

  • Their customers are happy to have something entertaining to read.
  • The Laughable News is free! Instead of paying for newspaper or magazine subscriptions, they can offer The Laughable News to their customers.
  • They win again because their customers leave in a good mood. They will likely return to the same location because of the positive experience.

With that being said there are just a few things you need to say when you are speaking to the owner/manager.

Introduction

Greet them with a friendly handshake and show them the newsletter while saying something like:

"Hello, my name is John, and I am a publisher of The Laughable News in South Edmonton. I distribute a weekly restaurant newsletter that is filled with family-friendly news, jokes, puzzles for kids and more. We're starting to distribute the newsletter in this area starting in June of 2010 and we would like to offer it to you and your customers for FREE!"

Occasionally, owners may not 'get it'. People are sceptical because of previous experiences with sales people and telemarketers. You may need to include:

"There is absolutely no obligation to you. If you decide that you do not wish to receive the newsletter anymore, simply give me a call and we'll remove it. My name is John, and my number is on every issue."

Show him your name/number on the newsletter.

Or if people are worried about clutter:

"We will personally come back each week to drop of the latest issue and clean up the old newsletters."

Once you get a "yes", have them sign a simple sign-up sheet. It is your way of keeping track of where you will distribute. And occasionally you may need the name of the person who gave you authorization. It happened once to me at a local McDonald's. The manager took it upon herself to have an employee throw our newsletters out each week after we dropped them off (Why they wouldn't just tell me was beyond my comprehension). Of course, when I discovered this, I immediately told them that the OWNER had given me authorization and it never happened again.
