What is The Laughable News? What does it look like?

The Laughable News develops and offers ready-to-use community newsletter templates, for businesses or individuals. You can start a newsletter in your community, without the hassle or expense of finding interesting content and puzzles. That will leave you time to do what is important: Sell advertising and Make $$$

The Laughable News began publishing it's first newsletter in May of 2005 in Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA. Since its inception, it has grown to include publishers around North America.

Why use The Laughable News? Can't I just start my own newsletter?

You can! Don't let us stop you. Don't believe anyone who tells you that you can't start your own newsletter. Anyone can start their own. The real question you should be asking yourself is, "Should I start my own newsletter?"

You would choose TLN because of:

Time:

  • If you have to spend time finding content each week, you are seriously limiting the amount of time you have to SELL ads. Yes, that is how you make money from the templates…you sell ads for the newsletter and keep the money.

  • We design a newsletter template each week complete with jokes, news, puzzles, cartoons, etc. You just open it, drop in your ads, and send it to the printers.

Content:

  • Great newsletters have great content! And great content costs money.
  • The Laughable News has struck deals with Cartoonists, Puzzle Makers, and Content Providers, allowing us to use their material. When you purchase our weekly template, you get the right to use this content with NO ADDITIONAL COSTS!

Expertise:

  • When you have questions, we have a library of information on the web. Or if that doesn't answer your question, you may email us.

  • We truly want everyone who purchases our template to do GREAT! We believe in this product and want to see it used across North America and the rest of the world!
What is a distribution area? How is my area determined?

A distribution area is area in which you have permission to use our templates, and publish TLN.  Your area will be determined by which plan you choose.

If you choose a basic plan, it might be mapped out by street numbers and avenues, or by towns. We can work together to map out the area you want to publish in.  Each area is unique, and the size will be determined by population density, the amount of commercial locations to place the newsletter, and more.

If you choose the premium plan, you will just need to select  the counties to publish in.  The combined counties should have a population between 250,000 and 1,000,000 people.  If you need to combine 3 or 4 to arrive at that number, then we will gladly work with you to make it work.

Can I use your templates in my State/Province?
We sell our templates all over North America.  At this time, the only area where we cannot sell our templates is in the State of New York. Will that change?  The best bet, if you are a resident of New York, is to email us. We may not be able to sell to you immediately, but we will keep your names/contact info on file. Then, when we are able to expand into New York, we will be in touch.

From time to time we may offer discounts on templates. We'll send notices out. If you aren't on the list you may lose out on a big promotion. Our last promotion saved all new publishers, on the Premium plan, over $1000 per year!

Can I reserve areas?

Basic Plan: Yes. When you sign up as a Publisher of TLN with the Basic Plan, we give you the option to reserve up to 3 additional areas. We'll hold those areas for up to one year, FOR FREE! That's right, you don't pay a thing to reserve them.

So, you're asking yourself, "It's too good to be true. Why wouldn't they just sell the areas to new people and make more money?"

Well, we truly care for our Publishers, and we want to see them succeed. If you want to expand, and we've sold out all the areas around you, you will have to drive a long way to find a new area. That's no way to grow your business. This way, you can expand when you are ready, and not have to worry about losing areas close to you.

When you do expand into those areas, we'll even give you a discount on the template fees. Each new area is just $25.00/week.


Premium Plan: When you sign up as a Publisher of TLN with the Premium Plan, you will have already secured a large area capable of sustaining many issues of the newsletter.  Therefore, we do not offer you the ability to reserve additional counties.  However, should you decide that you do need additional counties, they will only cost an additional $25/county per week.

 

Can I change the boundaries of my area?

Basic Plan: Don't worry, your areas are not 'written in stone'! As you start publishing, you may determine that your boundaries need adjusting. That is fine. We write your areas into the contract as a way to ensure that other publishers will not infringe on your area. We're more than happy to adjust those boundaries, as long as your adjustments will not infringe on other publishers.

Premium plan: You boundaries are set by county lines, and we are unable to change them. However, if you are wishing to increase your area, we can add a new county.
Is software required? Can you design for us?

We recommend that you purchase the necessary software and learn to design your own ads and layout your own edition of the newsletter. But, if you would rather not spend the initial $$$ to acquire the software, or if you just don't feel comfortable with the idea of designing yourself, we can do it for you for a small fee. Here are your options:

Buy Your Own Software:

Newsletter design: We design the newsletter in Adobe InDesign. This is the only program which will allow you to open our newsletter file and manipulate it. The version you will need is either Adobe InDesign CS2 or CS3.

Ad design: You may use any program you wish for designing ads for the newsletter. Our recommendation is Adobe Photoshop. That is what we use, and we will be able to offer advice if you need help. But, you could use other programs such as Corel Draw if you are more comfortable.

PDF Creation: You will need Adobe Acrobat Pro for converting your InDesign file to a smaller PDF file. This is the file you will send to your printer.

You can get all 3 of these programs within one software package: Adobe Creative Suites CS2 or CS3. You can buy a new copy here , or try to find a used one. Ebay is a good source for used software. If you are a student, you may purchase Educational Versions for a significant savings.

Hire Us To Design:

Ad design: We can design any size ad for the newsletter for a one time fee of $50 USD. Small changes to the ad (ie. Text or image swapping) can be done for $25/change. Complete revisions will costs $50.

Newsletter layout: We can layout the weekly newsletter for you for just $50 USD. Will will place all of your ads, change the contact information for you, and fill in any blank spaces with cartoons, puzzles, and/or filler ads. We will email you a PDF version for your review. Once you have reviewed it, you will then forward it to your printing company.

Is there a manual for The Laughable News?

If you are wanting a printed manual, then the answer is no. We keep our costs low by providing all our information online. If you have any questions that are not covered in this website, then please ask. We will do our best to answer them, and then we'll add the questions to our FAQ.

When you sign up, you will also gain access to our Member Area/Publisher Forum. The Member Area has an extensive FAQ/Tutorial section which covers many topics related to starting/running your newsletter business.  It also has areas where you can download sample files (ie. business cards, letterhead, invoices, contracts, etc).  The Publisher Forum allows you to interact with other publishers: Ask questions, give advice, share ideas and ad designs, etc. The forum will be a very useful tool when trying to grow your business.

Where would I distribute TLN?

You can distribute TLN almost anywhere. As long as there are people, they will read it. Here is a quick list of potential locations:

  • Fast food restaurants
  • Sit down restaurants
  • Cafes
  • Pubs
  • Professional offices (doctors, dentists, etc)
  • Vehicle repair shops
  • Cafeterias
  • Hospitals
  • Malls
  • and more...

Basic versus Premium Plans

Option 1: Basic Plan

A good choice for people wanting to start slow and publish in one or two areas. It keeps your overhead low in the beginning while you decide what you want to do.

Includes:

  • right to publish TLN in one area
  • access to our member area, and tutorials
  • downloadable templates for business cards, letterhead, and promotional materials
  • free email (ie. john.doe @laughablenews.com)

Cost: $50.00/week

  • Initial payment is $425.00 through Paypal (That is a saving of $175.00 !). Initial payment is a bulk purchase for the first 12 weeks of templates. After the first 12 weeks of templates, you will automatically be billed $50.00/week.
  • Payments may be terminated at any time, through Paypal, if you should wish to stop publishing TLN.
  • Additional publication areas are discounted to $25.00/week per area


Option 2: Premium Plan (Best Deal!)

This option will reserve up to two entire counties* for your use, and you can publish as many issues of TLN as you please within that county. $100.00 is the equivalent of Publishing in just 3 areas with Option 1. If you expand beyond those 3 areas, you will be saving BIG MONEY!

Includes:

  • right to publish any number of issues of TLN within two counties*.
  • access to our member area, and tutorials
  • downloadable templates for business cards, letterhead, and promotional materials
  • free email (ie. john.doe @laughablenews.com)
  • Additional areas are FREE, as long as they are in the county you have reserved.

Cost: $100.00/week

  • Initial payment is $850.00 through Paypal (That is a saving of $350.00 !). Initial payment is a bulk purchase for the first 12 weeks of templates. After the first 12 weeks of templates, you will automatically be billed $100.00/week.
  • Open as many issues of the newsletter as you wish, in your counties, and never pay more.
  • Payments may be terminated at any time, through Paypal, if you should wish to stop publishing TLN.
  • Need more room: get additional counties for just $25.00/week per county.

* The Laughable News Inc. reserves the right to alter it's plans without notice, limit number of counties, or divide large counties into smaller portions should the need arise. Prices are subject to change.

 

NOTE: All prices listed on this website are in USD, with the exception of residents of Canada. Canadian residents will pay the listed price in Canadian dollars and will be subject to GST.

What forms of payment are accepted?

We accept payment for our templates through Paypal , an online payment terminal. It is fast, easy, and secure. And best of all, it is FREE for you to use. You will not pay any transaction fees when sending us money. Paypal gives you the option of paying with existing balances, bank accounts, or major credit cards.

Each week, your payment will be automatically taken, and we will email you an invoice. You will have records of your payment from us, and from Paypal.

We are not able to accept any other forms of payment: checks(cheques), cash, money orders, direct credit card payments, etc.

Do you offer Referral Bonuses?

Yes, Yes, YES! The best kind of advertising is word of mouth. We truly appreciate it when any of our Publishers tell others about their great experience with TLN. If you tell someone about TLN, and they become a Publisher, we will pay you a referral bonus of $150.00! And we won't just do it once. We'll give you that bonus EVERY TIME you refer someone.

So, how do you get the bonus? Just be sure that the potential Publisher mentions your name when they inquire, or when they sign up. When their money clears Paypal, we'll forward you your bonus.

*bonus only applies to active Publishers with TLN. If you are not a Publisher, and recommend us to your friends, we truly appreciate it...But, we will not pay a bonus. This sweet deal is reserved for our paying customers. Thanks

How much can I earn?

As with any business, there are certain risks involved. Buying templates from us in no way guarantees success. Your success will be determined by, but not limited to, your business acumen, your ability to sell advertising, and your ability to deal with external financial, business and force majeure conditions. How much you make will depend on what you charge for ads, your printing costs, and other operational costs.

There are 39 ad spaces to sell in the newsletter. Realizing that the ads can be sold for any amount the ad buyers will pay, suppose, for example, each ad space was sold for $25.00/week. What would be the gross earnings if you sold only 5 ads, or sold all 39 ads, or some number in between? Look at the following graph:

How do I fill empty ad spaces?

At some point, you will find yourself needing to fill an empty ad space.  Empty ad spaces look bad, and they give the impression that you cannot sell the space.  IPotential advertisers what to see that a newsletter is thriving.  That means that you need to either fill spaces with ads, or fill them with something that serves a purpose.

Ad Fillers:

Ad fillers are advertisements that you can use to attract more paying advertisers. We have a wide variety of fillers available to you when you become a Publisher of TLN. Here are some examples:

Cartoons:

Why not draw your reader's eyes into the ad column with some funny cartoons?  Readers stay entertained, and your advertisements will be seen more often. We've made deals with several fabulous cartoonists. You can use these cartoons FREE-OF-CHARGE, within the newsletter, as a Publisher of TLN:

Can I change the content? Or the name of the newsletter?

Absolutely!

Buying our template should HELP you, not HINDER you. We try hard to provide great content, but we understand that you may want to add your personal touch to your issue. Perhaps you'll include a community news section, or change a joke. Anything goes! The only thing we require is that you keep the content family-friendly. (no hateful, racist, bigoted, or just plain mean material ;- )

We also know that you may have another name picked out for the newsletter you wish to start.  That is just fine.  Please feel free to add your own name.  But, if you enjoy the name The Laughable News, please feel free to use it/the logo on your newsletter.  The only restrictions on the use of our name are that you may not use it as part of a legal entity(ie. corporation name), or on your bank accounts.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
